About Us
I have always been fascinated with the art of quilt making. There are so many quilt patterns with an interesting history designed to communicate a special meaning, whether religious, celebratory, or just whimsical. I love the thriftiness and improvisation expressed in vintage quilts that highlight the talent and creativity of the quilter. Each quilt is unique with it's own story. Although I have grandmothers who quilted, I never learned that skill. I know the quilts they sewed were filled with love. While a humble barn quilt could never compare to a vintage quilt or one of the modern masterpieces sewn today, I hope to evoke some of their creativity, symbolism, and nostalgia.
Twenty-one years ago, I painted my first barn quilt. Just a small one for a tiny garden shed my husband built. In 2014, we moved a different home in Altoona, Iowa, and that barn quilt moved along with us. However, we now had a very plain white-on-white metal pole building. I excitedly painted a larger barn quilt in the Morning Star pattern. After several people asked us where we'd bought our barn quilt, we realized this was an opportunity to start our own business while doing something we enjoy.
In 2024, we moved to Pace, Florida, in the northwest panhandle. We were blessed to be able to move our business right along with us.
My husband Doug and I are graduates of the College of Design at Iowa State University. Doug, an architect, generously uses his free time to do all the wood working required to make a finished barn quilt. Together, we would love to create a barn quilt for you!
